How these numbers are worked out
The code is drawn here, not fetched from anywhere
Most free QR generators send your link to their server and hand back an image — which means the link lives in someone's logs, and some services quietly turn the code into a redirect they can switch off later. This one encodes the link in your browser and draws the result, so the code points at your album directly and forever.
Every colour pair is contrast-checked
Phone cameras convert the image to pure black and white before decoding, so a code has to survive that step. The theme colours are measured against the card behind them and warned about below 4.5:1 — the same threshold used for readable text — because that is roughly where scanning starts to fail in dim rooms and on glossy paper.
The centre badge forces stronger error correction
QR codes carry enough redundancy to survive damage, and a badge punched through the middle spends part of that budget before real life adds a crease or a thumbprint. Turning the badge on switches the code to the highest correction level automatically and keeps the badge under a fifth of the width, so what is left covers the party rather than the decoration.
Theme sets the colour, layout sets the arrangement
The same six themes and four layouts run through the printable party kit, so a photo sign printed here sits on a table that matches it. The Minimal layout is worth knowing about: it drops the pattern and the motifs, which is the difference between a sign you can print on the last of a cartridge and one you cannot.
The minimum print size is calculated, not guessed
A longer link means a denser grid, and a denser grid has to be printed larger for the same camera to resolve it. The size shown under your code is worked back from the module count, so you know whether it will survive being shrunk onto a favour tag before you print forty of them.
It is tested by actually decoding it
Every combination of module shape, corner style, error correction level and theme colour in this tool is rendered and read back through a QR decoder before release. That is how the dotted style was caught and cut — a code that scans on the desk and fails on the table is the one failure this tool cannot afford.
Common questions
How do I make a QR code for party photos?
Create the shared album first — in Party Snapz, Google Photos, iCloud or Dropbox — and copy its share link. Paste that link here, pick a theme, and print the table cards. Guests point a camera at the code and land straight in the album, with nothing to install.
Is it free, and does the code expire?
It is free, and the code never expires. A QR code is not a service — it is a picture of your link, so there is nothing to run out. What can expire is the album link inside it, so use a share link that does not time out, and check it a day before the party.
Do my guests need an app to scan it?
No. Every iPhone and Android camera has read QR codes natively for years — guests open the camera, point it, and tap the banner that appears. Whether they then need an account depends on the album you linked to, not on the code.
Do you store my album link?
No. The code is drawn in your browser from the text you typed, and the link is never sent anywhere. There is no account, no upload and no server that has seen it — close the tab and it is gone, which is also why you should keep the printed cards somewhere safe.
How big should I print a QR code?
The tool works out the smallest safe width for your particular code and shows it — a longer link needs more modules, and more modules need more paper. As a rule of thumb, 40mm across is comfortable for a table card someone scans from a seat away, and anything under 25mm is asking for trouble.
Can I use my own colours?
You can use any of the six themes, and the tool checks the contrast between the code and its background before it lets that pass without warning. Low-contrast codes look lovely on screen and fail in a dim room at 8pm, which is exactly when someone is trying to scan one.
Why is there no dotted or pixel-art style?
It was built and then removed. Testing it through a real decoder showed it only read reliably at roughly double the resolution of the square and rounded styles, because separated dots give a scanner no clean grid to lock onto. A style that looks good and scans badly is worse than no style at all.
